sound is way too loud

I just watched a blu-ray dvd on my new blu-ray disc player for the first time and i noticed that everytime a action scene or an explosion the sound is when people are talking/having a conversation the sound is lower...so everytime a explosion or action scene comes on i find myself quickly reaching for the remote to lower the sound. Anyway i can adjust the sound/audio settings on my blu-ray disc player...please help...this is so annoying
