Help with the E71

Hi all,
I just got the E71 for a decent price, but it's currently locked to a network. I was wondering if reformatting it with the " *#7370# " method or the hard reset mehod (Holding the green call button, 3 and *, while turning it on) would unlock it?
Or maybe a software update?
Any ideas?
