PSP 2000 UMD switch/sensor

#1 12 Aug 2010 @ 8:46
Hello,
My PSP 2000's UMD switch/sensor (what looks like a tooth) near the lens has broken. What are my options in correcting this? Am I right in thinking that I cannot play any UMD games without this part?
I am not very competent in soldering/desoldering so desoldering the old switch and soldering a new one is a last resort!
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thank you and regards.

i have stuck toothpicks in them to hold them down and broke them off inside to get it working until i can do a permanent fix on it, you may try that.

Hmm...seems OK to try! Also, I thought of getting a replacement switch & breaking off the tooth-like part & pasting that on the original switch. Now the problem is the other switch near the door (the black one) which is also broken. I bought the motherboard used so the previous owner must have been hamhanded!

No UMD movies for you and you can't rip a game.

Xbox 360: On my fourth console, first one rrod 3 times, second one sold at ebay because of no HDMI, third one rrod during flashing (supposedly killed that drive), fourth one up and working on LT 3.0
PSP: Slim&Lite 2004 model with 6,60 ME v1.3
PS3: 60 Gig Model with the latest official firmware for going online and a modified case for better cooling
PSVita: Need some games for it, just bought an 8 GB memory card at ebay, awaiting a Photofast addapter for MicroSD-cards.
