Hi I am building a new computer and since I havnt built one in along time so I figured since I was a member I would ask what would 550$ get me should I go amd or intel and duel core or i series please help set a list up.

I wouldn't go with that deal...the price seems nice, but the mainboard, memory, and power supply are all junk. (the CPU is outdated, but still at least reliable, unlike the other parts listed). For $550, I have a build below. It will be a few % slower than that Phenom-Based system, but it will have a lot more expandability. does the motherboard have usb 3.0 and 6.0 sata also what case would you suggest if it was cheaper isnt the i series duel core also? thanks killer bug
NO USB 3.0 or sata 6.0...they make the board in a USB 3.0 version, but it costs a bit more. SATA 6.0 is still useless for regular hard drives, and will be so for a while. The low-end i5 is a dual core, I wouldn't bother with one of those. The better i5 is a quad-core, and it will blow that Pheonom away. The other board is crap for future-proofing because it has an old socket that does not support the intel i3-i7...so it isn't even current, let alone future-proof. Also, the board is made by MSI...they don't make the worst boards, but they are not great either. Also, Asus isn't very good at making mainboards...so I would recommend against that one as well. The only 3 mainboards brands I would consider right now are eVga, Gigabyte, and DFI (DFI being a last resort). SATA 3 (6.0gbps) is great in theory, but most current hard drives can barely use 1/3 of the speed of SATA2...by the time economical drives are going faster than SATA2 can support, the system will already be very old. USB 3.0 is a slightly different story; it is likely that USB 3.0 will become useful to you at some point in the machine's life. You could spend a few dollars more now to get a board with USB 3.0, or you could just wait for it to become more popular...and buy a addon card at that time. Gskill memory is usually good...I only recommend Corsair because of their stellar reputation and quality...and the fact that I have never had Corsair memory fail, with the exception of power surges that destroy everything. The only reason I recomened the CPU that I did is because it is the cheapest CPU on the 1156 bus. Any other 1156 cpu would be better, and the best "bang for the buck" is gotten from the quad-core i5. If you went with the gigabyte case, and added about $50 to your build budget, you could get this CPU and skip all the upgrades later. The case you found would probably do the job, but the power supply in it is total trash...this is normal with most case-power supply combos. Also, the gigabyte has a lot more expandability and better cooling.

I would recommend you go with amd, it is good for gaming if you are after for gaming. and it is also cheaper than intel. you can go with amd athlon x2 3.0ghz it is like you are using core 2 duo. or you also may want amd phenom
I used to be a loyal AMD fan, but they simply can't compete, even at the same price range. The quad-core i5 blows away the fastest AMD quad cores...and the i5 is intel's low-end. Plus, the AM2/AM2+/AM3 platform is downright ancient, and in desperate need of replacement. 1156 is a brand new bus with a future.
I actually disagree with both posts - AMD stuff is the best for the absolute low end, but beyond that I would agree that Intel CPUs are superior. prutsos: what is the PC for? Do you plan on playing any games, doing any video editing work? This defines which type of system is best.
I plan on doing both sorry I want a all around bad ass computer I will go with the i5 quad core I think I just need a god mother board adn video card
