Hi i'm building a new pc and was wondering what size memory to get, see i dunno if its worth getting 4 gig or 8 gig ddr3. Is there much difference between 4 and 8 as i never seen much difference between 1 and 2 gig back in the day. Also is a blu ray burner worth getting yet?
For your working or game rig it's all about how you use your system, will you be gaming, running intensive 3D or imaging software, rendering/transcoding, using it as a miltimedia center etc and will you be running 32 or 64 bit software (32-Bit will only recognise 3.5Gb). More memory doesn't always affect boot times in the right way, however having more things pre-cached should lead to a faster windows experience. There's no outright answer here but like quad cores, you can't deny that having more spare resources available is always a good thing. If you can afford it why not go for it, but some specs of the rig your building would be nice and will help in providing you with information.
4GB is enough for almost all purposes unless you run huge 3D modelling programs, or you play high-end games at the absolute highest settings. If neither apply, 4GB it is. As for blurays, entirely up to you. Personally, I think hard drives are much better than blurays, as the discs themselves are still quite pricey, and you can't lose a hard drive very easily Really it comes down to if you want to play BluRay discs on your PC much. If you can live without, or would prefer to download them from the internet, then there's no need for a BluRay drive.
