Hi, all. I was stupid enough one day to think that I could build a computer with minimal research into the project. I bought components that all fit together, but there are a few problems in which i have no idea wahts going on. They are: 1.The dvd drive doesnt open, it uses a IDE cable to connect to the motherboard 2.When I turn it on, there is no video output. I've tried using both analog and digital plugs on both my video card (Sapphire Radeon 4850) and my onboard card (ATI Radeon 3300) and nothing shows up. I know that power is running through the motherboard, because when I turn on the computer, the cpu fan and video card fan both turn on. Also, it's not the moniter because I just bought the moniter as well. 3.The HDD that I bought uses a IDE as well, and I didn't know how to connect both the HDD and DVD drive, so I put them both on the same cable, the HDD using the primary plug and DVD drive using the slave plug. However, I might just buy a new HDD that uses a SATA cable instead, because that might be the obvious fix to this. Do you have the hd jumper set to master and the optical jumper set to slave? You will have to go in to bios and set it to ide; Not sata. Burn On, Russell PS. Take your time and check, set and you'll be booting up. LOL
There is no video output, so the system is not entering POST. Firstly, try removing the hard disk and DVD drive. I'm rather amazed you've bought a HDD with an IDE cable, as those haven't been used in new PC systems for at least 3 years, possibly 4. The only reason they still exist is as upgrades to really old PCs that have no S-ATA ports. Using an IDE hard drive and CD drive on the same cable will blunt performance severely if using both at the same time. It could also potentially be a problem with the RAM, as OCZ memory is well known for problems with initial setup. Have you connected both the 24-pin AND 4 (or 8, depending) pin connectors to the motherboard?
