How do you connect windows 7 to an xp network to share files. I got Windows 7 64-bit ultimate and windows xp sp3. All I want to do is use files from the xp network on the 7 one.
    thanks

First click the network symbol in the tray

Then click "network and sharing center"

    The click "on" "network discovery"

Its still not working. Both computers are on the same workgroup and connected to the same router. would running a virtual windows 7 on the xp machine work? I know connecting 2 windows 7s is easy cause of the workgroups.

You don't have to do anything much different in Win7 from sharing in XP, all my linux and XP machines co-exist perfectly with my Win7 machines..

I have no problem sharing between Win2K, WinXP and Win7. Vista is an entirely different matter. In my six-system home network nobody talks to/from my wife's Vista system. I would have come here hat-in-hand a long time ago asking for help, but I really wanted to save myself a public forehead-slapping moment.

Someday she may come to me, all sweetness and light, whispering "YO! ADMIN!" and my cover of ignorance will be blown and I'll be back.
