Dell Precision 490 upgrade CPU

#1 30 Oct 2011 @ 18:26
I am looking to upgrade the processor in my Dell which is running a Xeon 5130 @ 2Ghz. I bought the PC originally for video editing but now want to use it for playing games (i'm hooked on Crysis 2) and wondered which processor i could purchase that would be an easy swap and a good upgrade. I'm on a budget and looking for value for money.

I've already put 8gb RAM and a ATI Radeon HD 4670 GPU in the machine to help improve it's gaming potential but i'm not confident with CPUs and their compatibility. I know the Xeon 5130 is more of a workstation / server CPU, can i just buy an i5 or i7 and swap them over? Is it really that simple?

Any advice would be appreciated thanks.
