my x1950 pro is dying. it is showing artifacts and even after cleaning and getting new drivings it still shows artifacts. i have a 20" acer widescreen and a anteq basic plus 550w with 3 12v rails; 22a, 22a, and 24a. i have athlon x2 5000 2.6ghz, 2gb of ddr2 667 and 2gb of ddr2 800. the x1950 did pretty well with these specs. i was playing oblivion at 1600x900 with 40-50fps and crysis at 1300x768 or something and was getting 30fps the most im looking to spend is around $150-$160ish. my preference would be lower like $120 i was looking into getting a pny gts 250 1gb ddr3 but its the same as a 9800gtx+. i was also looking at a gt 240 but iv heard its not that good with to many games. and ati i was looking at a 4670 for $99 but im not to sure which to go with or if there is something that will beat these two for not that much more money

The X1950 Pro isn't an AGP card, it was designed from the outset as PCI Express, it's not that old! Don't bother buying a GT240 or GTS250 they're both poor value cards. Buy an HD5750 or HD5770, they're much better.

The AGP X1950 I believe came out several months afterwards, and was a custom retrofit to the AGP architecture. By this point standard AGP cards were rare and only the X1950 and 7900GS were converted. The X1900XT/XT-X, X1800GTO, X1950XT and X1950XT-X and so on, along with the 7900GT, 7950GT and 7900GTX were never converted for mass-market sale. The last series to have a large lineup of AGP products was the X800/6800, and even the X800XT was only ever prototyped to AGP, it was never sold in any real numbers. The highest up ATI AGP card for a long time was the X800 Pro, until the X1950 Pro version came out I think.
i actually found a radeon hd 4860 on new egg. with a discount it was only $113 with free shipping. the card runs really well and id can play crysis warhead and max resolution which is 1600x900 with 2AA and vsync and get a steady 30fps which for me is good. and bioshock i put everything max and im getting around 70fps
The HD4860 is an offshoot for an Asia-only variant of the HD4870 and HD4890. It's very power-inefficient, but it's a reasonably powerful card for playing games.
i agree that its power-inefficient. it took two pcie 6 pin power cables. but they were only 75watt so my psu is powerful enough. but i cant complain about the power because i am on a budget and my old card was crapping out and i thought i got it for a good deal. I was surprised that newegg had it because i read that they were discontinued
To be honest, I didn't think they were ever going to be sold in the US market. Perhaps they sold a few to clear some stock. You still got a decent card for the price, most importantly.
