I've built desktops before, but now that im going to go to college soon, i need to look for a laptop because of portability, size, and such. Now that doesn't mean i need a Dell Mini or a 7" netbook, but i need a decent laptop, around 15".

I have been surfing around newegg, and i found this, looks like a steal at that price range.

I am really lost when it comes to mobile gpu's, so any input in this field would be nice.

The 5650 isn't top-of-the-line, but it is a fine GPU...better than Alienware uses anyway. Overall, that looks like a good price for decent performance. You should remember that the Laptop I5 is not the same as a desktop I5...the laptop version is only a 2-core. Also, Acer isn't the best brand when it comes to build quality. It seems to be very hit-n-miss, with some users getting many years of flawless performance, and others getting DOA hardware.

There are desktop i5 dual cores as well you know :p
I agree with the rest of the post though, it's a good-spec laptop, but Acer laptops are always high-spec for the price, because they're cheaply made and can often be problematic.
    How about this one?

thanks you two. In all honesty, a 17" laptop would be alittle too large. Im looking for a laptop around 13-15".

If there are no other choices, then perhaps i would consider that gateway. Is the only reason you suggest that one because of the larger res and screen? Is gateways build that much better than acer's?

The Gateway's spec is almost identical to the Acer as you see, but Gateway is a better brand.
