Folks, My goal to get audio AND video out from the HDMI cable, when connected to my HDTV. Question 1: Aside from having an HDMI output on a newer video card, what else do I need to look for in that card ? Question 2: Do I have to purchase a new sound card or will my existing one on the motherboard suffice ? Question 3: What type of connectivity is required as a passthrough from the soundcard to the video card ? Essentially, using VLC, I plan on watching .MKV files on the LCD HDTV
Question 1: You just need to look for one capable of carrying audio over hdmi. Question 2: Neither. See above. Question 3: None. See above. I forget where the setting is, I have seen it before but my 4890 is able to pass audio through either the HDMI port or the DVI port using a DVI to HDMI cable.
