Hey Guys My first post here and I really need help on upgrading the proccessor on this computer Here on the specs its the same one this guy has http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/model-documents.pl?mdl=VGCRB30 ive upgraded the grphics card to a nvidia 9400gt with pci express what exactly do i need to buy to be able to put a a intel dual core poccesor or anything better idk i also upgraded to windows 7 and the ram dont know what i need to do and i also want to remove the cd-rom drive and maybe put a bluray drive idk? plz hellp basicly i jjust want to change the whole computer and just keep the tower
Well, what is the specific processor you want? And you can get instructions on putting the bluray drive from that page: "optical disk drive replacement instructions" Depending on the processor, you may or may not need to get a new motherboard. Well im not really dedicated to upgrade the optical drive Idk what processor would be fastest and cheapest. And im pretty sure im going to need a new motherboard. Wich one should get if i want to get the core i7 that i hear about alot but dont know what the hell is except i know its a processor and i might want a blu ray read and write im willing payanything under 500$
The cheapest bluray reader is $60. All the Core i7's are Quad Core...the cheapest is $280. Then you'll need a motherboard with either an 1156 or 1366 socket, depending on which i7 you get. Your motherboard will also need at least one PCI Express 2.0 x16 for your video card, and enough SATA and IDE ports for your hard drives and disk drives. You'll also need the right memory slots for your RAM. If you only want to spend up to $200 for a quad core, there's a Core i5 which is only a little decrease(2.66MHz vs. 2.8MHz) for $80 less. It's the i5 750. It really isn't worth getting an i7 unless you get one of the higher end ones, which are all $550+. The bluray player and the processor leave you with $140 for a motherboard. I suggest gigabyte, biostar, and msi.
And with new mobo, means a new case, well this time around. Most OEM cases arent designed for switching out the mobos and will have trouble cooling your parts. Get a case now and in the future, you can keep the case and just swap out the mobo no problem.
alright thanx i guess im going to be just building a whole new computer but heres what i am going to buy so far New Case Blu Ray read and write drive(this can burn dvds rite?) Motherboard Core i5 proccesor Memory and I already have a graphics card what else do i need?
Blu Ray drives will work on any modern mobo. Yes it will burn DVDs, but from what I read there not quite as good at it as a DVD burner. With out a budget, its impossible to build anything for you. We could build you something for $5,000 USD but it does no good if its not in your budget. Your looking at about a $500-$600 budget ideally for an i5 set up, but with a blu-ray burner thats putting it more towards the $700 range. With out a blu ray burner we should be able to build an i5 pretty efficiently since you wont need an expensive video card. It may be best to scrap the Blu-Ray burner for now, and be sure to check out the cost of blank Blu-Rays.
