Mobo - ASUS makes poor quality mobos, go for MSI,Gigabyte or Biostar. RAM - Aside from G.Skills horrible customer support I cant actually say ig these are any good or not, but I would personally go with Corsair Dominator if you want high end RAM or the XMS series by Corsair if your not after high end RAM. PSU - Nothing wron with Seasonic but the Corsair 750 is cheaper and probably higher quality: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139010 The Seasonic pushes an extra 2 Amps though. CPU - You could drop to a 930, OC it yourself and save the money. I believe there still going to OC to about the 4.0 mark (on air) but of course the 930 would require a higher OC. Plextor - They dont even make drives anymore. They buy drives from other companies, modify the firmware slightly and slap there label on it. Go for a Samsung or LG. Liquid Cooler - Are you going to do massive OCing? Otherwise air will do just fine with the right cooler.
Board: 4/10 - Low spec, and it's Asus, so unreliable PSU: 7/10 - Excellent quality, very overpriced DVD: 5/10 - Plextor stuff is cheap tat now, not worth its price CPU: 8/10 - Depends on its use. Using socket 1366 is a waste if it's just for games, as an i5 760 is almost as fast and half as much money. For computing power though, the i7 950 is the A-grade choice. GPU: 10/10 RAM: 7/10 - G-Skill's compatibility has been questionable lately. I'd suggest using Corsair instead, especially for 12GB of RAM. Case: 9/10 - Nice case for the size, but a bit pricey. Cooler: 7/10 - Very powerful, but total overkill in most instances. HDD: 10/10, but no SSD in a $1500 build? How good your raptor is depends how old it is. An original 37GB Raptor is actually slower than the WD1002FAEX in all respects. Overall: 6/10 - 8/10 if board replaced with a better brand. Here's my $1500 gamer buid. This comp won't be for just gaming, so I would go with a high power processor. disk drive Im switching for sure Will go for this power supply instead. http://newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139010 hdd is a new velociraptor i bought a few weeks ago cooler Im not too sure about either, was thinking of another one in neweggs video it was comparing to that I forget the name to atm. that is if Im going to need it. ram will probably change then. gpu, how does this compare to a GTX 470? mobo, are asus really that unreliable? Ive been using them for quite a while now... their support isn't good tho. I have a gigabyte mobo in a current build and there is a lot of program updates and I am liking it so i may change this to a gigabyte mobo.
Why the 750W PSU? The 650 has more than twice the power your system will use (Before overclocking, an LGA1366 CPU and a 5850 will use around 280-300W. After, it'll be around 350W). Even a 550W VX would be more than sufficient for your system, even if you overclock it to the extreme. The HD5850 and GTX470 are relative equals. Asus don't just have bad support, their boards don't last. Between 5 and 18 months after most people buy Asus boards, they will fail. It's just hassle and headache you don't need, having to change your motherboard up to twice a year.
the psu, yeah I thought the 750w is overkill. it will be smaller, but the main idea is that it will be replaced with a corsair. I was considering a 620 incase of upgrades but with rebate the 750 is cheaper, im still looking around though. alright. Ok, their board have been quite reliable for me in the past but I guess I'll look around for another brand thanks once again
The 620 is discontinued, so that would be why it's expensive. The 650W HX is $122 with a $10 rebate to mark it down to $112. The 750W HX is $152 with a $20 rebate to mark it down to $132.
The seasonic actually combos with the radeon -40$ combo. So we can say the seasonic is 140.. I'm not too worried about the power supply atm. But how about ram? whats good, I'm confused as some are more expensive when they seem faster to me. what do you recommend around 200$ (a bit over is ok, if its worth it) 3 x 2gb
