Hi, Bought a new pc for a customer consisting of:

    Gigabyte GA-G31M E2SL motherboard
    Maxtor 80GB HDD
    Intel Celeron 1.8Ghz
    500W PSU
    Sony CD drive

It's a budget build but all new components except one.
The disc drive seems to be working, Installed Windows XP, and installed motherboard drivers.

The operating system keeps freezing but windows are still responsive.

Start menu works and all main windows work so explorer.exe is functioning but when i click system in control panel the egg timer appears but then stops.

    Please help me troubleshoot this
    Regards

Start with a ram test, then do a hdd test.
