    Hi

I have 2 trial editing software - Sony Vegas 10 and Pinnacle Ultimate. The playback on both is choppy when editing even when the settings are at the lowest for playback.

Can someone advise if the pc I have is suited for editing or what you would suggest to upgrade for better performance. The video footage im editing is in the format of AVCHD. Im not filming in HD.

    Anyways my spec

    Windows 7
    Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E8400 @ 3.00GHz (2 CPUs), ~3.0GHz
    4096MB RAM
    NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS 512

    Any help appreciated

    Thanks

here is a guess: maybe the hard drives are too slow...

pc seems to be just fine, but maybe it is asking a bit much using avchd, maybe try a lesser resolution codec/format/whatever it may be called. you said you are not filming in hd so why use it?

*when in doubt check the minimum specs*

    Hi

The camera im using is a Panasonic SD600 - I film in HD when I play back through the TV, but when i want to edit I have the option to switch of the HD on the camera.

so even on that setting the playback is choppy when editing - thanks for the reply will see what I can do

ok i was confused if you actually were using HD. disregard my advice abut finding other format, as i realize that format is probably one of the best out there for editing HD. but do keep in mind that avchd can be pretty intensive for resources. maybe you could do a quick shoot in sd and see if there is a big change in speed. good luck

Your computer is fine for basic editing, are you getting stutter in your playback inside pinnacle and vegas? or is it happening even when you playback through say wmm?

ok, ive had this problem before, its probably because your on a trial and it didnt install correctly. i would suggest reinstalling them both. but first make sure your project settings are correct for your video hd video resolution is 1280x720 (at least youtube quality) make sure your framerate is at 29.970, Pixel format is 8bit motion blur is gaussian, and full render quality is best. in pinnacle im not exactly sure what you need to set as but its very easy to use so you should be able to figure it out. also make sure you add media to your project under "project media" and under "preview quality" best-auto is selected.

    Hi

I have changed all settings apart from Pixel format to 8bit and motion blur to gaussian - where are these 2 bits changed?

    Cheers
