i'm doing this budget build, i already have everything set except for the cpu.. it will be used for maya and photoshop a lot.. so which would be the better cpu for this purpose?

These are fairly weak cpus for what your wanting to do I believe, but of the two id say the phenom is probably the better cpu. You probably would have been best to try to save up for a Core i5 at the least, but ideally id have recommend an i7.

Agreed. If you can afford a Core i7, do it.
