I am looking to upgrade the processor and according to the manufacturer of my computer the two processors I can use are listed below. The question I have is which one is the fastest? Thanks in advance. Pentium D 800 series Smithfield core up to 3.2 GHz Pentium 4 Prescott core up to 580 and 670
being single core processors neither on is,in my opinion,going to make much difference.what are system specs? ie ram type and how much.video card etc.

If you could help me pick the better of the ones I previously listed that would be great. Were having problems when streaming 1920x1080 video where the video is extremely choppy. the ram you listed is ddr but the motherboard uses ddr2. get faster ram. get better videocard as i think that is near bottom of line for videocards especially for 512meg. you can't access all 4 gigs of ram because you are using 32bit xp so get 64bit win7. don't bother with the ssd drive for that computer.
Thanks for all the advice. What about using Windows Ready Boost to make up for the lack of ram? Also the memory I listed earlier was for a different computer. I'm actually using this ram. readyboost has some effect on computers running less than 2gb.any more than that and it is pretty much a waste of time.like ddp said,i would install win 7 and then tweak it to run faster.like i said,the biggest limiting factor here is that your machine is a single core processor.with the money you want to spend,have you looked into a used dual core or something similar?

Another thing I forgot to mention is that the PCI Express slot is only PCI Express 1.1 and the card supports 2.0. Could that be the factor that is causing the choppiness in the videos. go with the 840 as is a dual core according to this intel link. http://ark.intel.com/compare/27514,...16,27517,27518,28011,27519,27520,27521,27522, get a better videocard with at least 1gig of ram as version 2 cards are backward compatible with version 1 slots. might have to get a higher wattage psu but don't get it from hp, get it from your local computer store.
