    Hi everyone,

I want to upgrade my current pc that i've had now for 2 years. Main reason is I want to be able to play COD Black Ops at a high setting.

This is what i currently have (straight off the tax invoice >.<):

Lian li case pc-09b (This is the photo closest to it that i can find:
    http://benchmarkreviews.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=48&Itemid=61)

    intel core 2 quad Q6600 SKT-775

    amicore 2gb pc5300 ddr2 sdram memory

    gigabyte GA-G33M-S2 SKT-775 ATX motherboard

Thermaltake toughpower 750W ATX power supply

    Seagate 3.5" SATA 160gb 7200RPM HDD

    Palit geforce 8800GT 512MB PCI-E video card

liteon 20x sata dual layer dvd+-RW drive

    Windows 7 Pro, 32 bit (i think)

    So there we have it...

I'm looking to put these on it:

    ATI Radeon 5870
    4gb RAM
    i5-760 OR i7-950 CPU
    a suitable motherboard for either the i5 or i7 (G-B P55A-UD3 / G-B X58A-UD3R)
perhaps a SSD hard drive thingie
    blu ray disk player

I was wondering if i could keep my current cpu / motherboard and just put the 5870 and 4gb RAM and eventually put in the new parts every pay day or so lol.

    Help, anyone? Thanks!!!!!!!

different kind of memory...the kind you will need for the i5 or i7 won't even plug into your current mainboard.

You should be able to just drop the new video card into your current rig...it uses a lot of juice, but a good 500W power supply should be more than enough...therefor your crummy 750w should be just enough for the job.

No, as Killerbug said, upgrade the video card and your done. If you really want you could invest in an SSD to run your apps, games, and os off of. SSD are not hard drives at all, just plain SSD. There more or less like a giant flash drive. There much faster then a conventional HDD. Also getting rid of the RAM you have and replacing it with 4 GB of Corsair RAM would be a good idea. However its hard to advise on just what to do because we dont know your budget. One things for certain though, if you really want to go with an i5(no real need for an i7 just for gaming), your pretty much best to build an entire new pc.

A Q6600 will play BlackOps fine I suspect. You just want 4GB of RAM and a better graphics card. I'd advise just getting rid of your current set and getting 2x2GB of Corsair XMS2.
