Hi guys, I am sure there are many threads like this but just wanted to make sure that I get my specific questions answered. I have a jailbroken iPhone 3GS on 4.1 FW. I jailbroke it but unfortunately, couldn't unlock due to the baseband. I was able to sort this with the iPad baseband so I am on 06.15.00. I have seen they are about to release the unlock for this baseband but am unsure of the steps to take. Do I use the official update to 4.3.1 via iTunes? Then re-jailbreak it then run the Ultrasn0w 1.2.1 to Unlock iOS 4.3.1 which is about to be released via Cydia? Or do I need to jailbreak with a custom FW? I don't want to end up with an unusable iPhone due to the baseband. Any help would be most appreciated. I know these may seem n00b questions but after me messing it up last time with the baseband I want to make sure I know what I am doing this time around. Many thanks in advance. Dave
Hi Dave! ^o^ I have read about being able to change the 3Gs baseband to be that of the ipad. It sounded interesting at first, but then I found out that if you do this, you will not be able to restore with an official Firmware again and will always be required to restore using a custom firmware. I then lost interest at this point as I am on an official carrier bundle anyway, so didn't take the chance with it. I also read that you will lose GPS functionality on your iphone by updating to ipad baseband. Custom Firmwares need to be created using sn0wbreeze or pwnage tool for the mac. You can still create custom firmwares to update your device with which will update the firmware, but not the baseband. I am currently on firmware 4.2.1 on baseband 05.12.01. I have found that I have lost the ability to send MMS though, which I'm a little upset about, but for the sake of keeping my device unlockable, I have learnt to live with it. lol now that you've had my life story, I will get back on track... Download sn0wbreeze from here, and your firmware file from here. Create custom firmware with sn0wbreeze, following onscreen instructions to get your device to DFU mode and restore with itunes, holding shift when pressing restore. If you error whilst restoring, download iReb and that should help fix the problem! ^o^ Hope I've helped.
