Is putting a fake APN number all I need to disable data?

    Hello, looking for some answers.

    So I'm under my dad's T-mobile plan, and my friend gave me an unlocked and i think, jailbroken iphone 2g, 8gb.

    i don't want to incur data charges on my dad's plan.

    i changed the apn number by going to this site: "www.unlockit.co.nz", which supposedly disables the data.

    is that all i have to do to avoid data charges?
