you can jailbreak any FW currently. easiest way to do it is via blackra1n, its a simple one click method. however, if you need to unlock and jailbreak it, then i would download guesswh0's prepatched ISPW for the 3gs iphone. then just do a shift+restore with that custom FW. it will unlock, jailbreak, and activate the phone at the same time.

When you say unlock it, do you mean unlock so any sim card can be used? Is blackra1n more efficient than purple rain? Cause i found this other guide on this link:

I got told by someone that i might only be able to do a tethered jailbreak because my iphone is so new, what does this mean?

    Cheers for your help btw

have no clue what the tethered jailbreak is. and blackra1n will only work on the 3.1.2 FWs (i believe). however, easiest thing to do is just click on the link in my signature and ask guessswh0 in the IRC channel we have.

a tethered jailbreak is where you have to run blackrain again to get your iphone/ipod to turn back on if you have completely powered down either by turning it off or letting the battery go completely dead. i believe this applies to all 3rd generations iphone/ipods. i had a 3rd generation ipod and it was tethered but now i have a 16 gb second generation ipod and it is not tethered. being tethered is not that big of a deal, you only have to do it if your phone has been powered down and takes seconds to get it back on.
