Hi Guys, most of the ways that I checked here are ways to transfer iphone contacts directly to a computer as contact files. However, I am trying to transfer my iPhone 5 contacts to Outlook on my PC, how could I do that without having to use iTunes?

you can still use itunes as normal, and when it asks you to update just select cancel and your good to go. and if its only contacts your wishing to backup, unclick everything else and only backup contacts.

As I mentioned before this third-party tool also let's you export iPhone contacts as vCard and CSV file (supported by Outlook): http://www.iphone-to-pc.com/transfer-iphone-contacts-to-pc.html

You can also use iCloud for this, check this article:

You can just sync iPhone contacts to PC via iCloud,
I think it's the simplest way.
Or you can transfer contacts to you Google account first,
    then download to your PC.

Because iDevice syncing is one-way - computer to iDevice. There are third-party utilities for transferring data from an iDevice to the computer. Look for them at MacUpdate and CNet Downloads.

iTunes can backup iPhone data in computer, such as SMS, contacts, photos, videos. But when you change your computer or working with a computer without iTunes. It seems that you cannot backup important information of your iPhone. In that case, i thing you really want to have a way to backup iPhone contacts without iTunes. It can help you.

I am a Comcast customer and use their App to sync to the cloud, if you are a customer you could use that.

In addition I use a an "App" called "Contacts Tool" ($4.99)I can save my contacts as many form of files including text and the file used by the app to restore the contacts(LDIF) After exporting I can email the files within the app to myself so they can always be recovered and imported back when the app is on my new phone. It's compatible with Dropbox.

I found using address book on PC is quirky at best.
