dvf recorder plus vcr combo

Can the PANASONIC DMR-ES40V record to DVD+RW discs? The manual says no. Other sites say yes. Answer please. Can anyone recommend a combo that records to BOTH + and - discs, both R and RW WITH an ACTIVE RF in and out with or without a built in tuner? I am trying to avoid using a modolator. I know I need my cable box as the source but if I can use the RF that would leave both line ins available. Brands and models please. I bought a replacement unit but the RF out jack was broken off.
