audio problem - dvd files to mkv

i'm using total video converter platinum and running into a couple issues...

1. i can never select the output audio type to dts or ac3, it only gives me mp3 or aac.

2. i have dvd files which contain ac3 audio. when i convert to mkv h.264, it doesn't even let me select aac 5.1. i have to choose stereo.

Never heard of it but the name suggests you paid for it, and there are free softwares that likely do a better job - probably Handbrake or even something like FormatFactory.
