Join/Convert files, only first one works?

#1 04 Aug 2011 @ 17:47
I'm sure someone here knows the answer to this, but it's confusing me.

A site I d/l from has it's video files arranged like this -

Pterydactal.avi.001
Pterydactal.avi.002
Pterydactal.avi.003
Pterydactal.avi.003

I d/l them in this format, and then I rename them so the .avi is the file extension (otherwise they don't work at all)
If I try and play them, only the first one works. If I try to join or convert them, the same thing happens. Only the first one will work, the others will get an 'unrecognised file format' error. This happens regardless of the joining tool I use.
I've also tried to use Nero to just make them straight into DVD's but I get the same error message when I bring in any files after the first.

Interestingly enough when I play the first file, it always brings up the full information about the movie (in terms of total time etc) in the details area.

I'm not an entire newbie to this but this one has got me confused.

Thanks!

Does each file playback ok when selected individually.
Compare each file in MediaInfo to see if they are the same codec, resolution etc.

Thanks for taking the time to answer Attar.

Only the first file plays. I cant do anything with any of the following files. They wont play, they wont convert - nothing.

Mediainfo gives me this for the first 2 files.
(Cant post pics being a newbie to the forum)

File 1 - First Video Stream - 104Kbps, 720*480 (3:2) @ 30,000fps MPEG-4 Visual (XviD) (NTSC) (Simple@L1)
First Audio Stream - 128Kbps, 44.1 KHz, 2channels, MPEG Audio (MP3)(Version1) (Layer 3)(Joint stereo/MS stereo)

File 2 only has a video stream and its slightly different?
- 1074 Kbps, 720*480 (3:2) @ 30,000fps MPEG-4 Visual (XviD) (NTSC) (Simple@L1)

File 3 is different again (no audio stream again)
- 991 Kbps, 720*480 (3:2) @ 30,000fps MPEG-4 Visual (XviD) (NTSC) (Simple@L1)

File 4 just says this - 720*480 (3:2) @ 30,000fps MPEG-4 Visual (XviD) (NTSC) (Simple@L1)

It looks to me like the original avi has been split somehow with most of the info still staying with the first file, and somehow I need to re-unite it with the others. But how? When no program I have recognises them.

Igmutaka, Thank You.

That is EXACTLY what I needed. Works perfectly!

I knew there had to be a simple way around it.
