Other than renting a copy and copying the hard drive files is there any other way to fix this? I tried the toothpaste method with no success.

The game is basically done! The ring around a disc is usually from someone moving the system from a horizontal to vertical position, while the system is still on and the disc is spinning, causing the perfect circle. You probably won't be able to read the whole disc, with that there!
