Why can't I increase playback speed of an AVI encoded using an ffdshow codec?

Hi,
I'm currently using a DVI frame grabber to record AVI video from my PC and am trying to integrate an ffdshow codec to encode video. I've succesfully recorded good 1920x1200 video using the MPEG-4 encoder and the MP4V codec. However, when I play the AVI file in Windows Media Player, the Play > Play Speed option is grayed out. Increasing the playback speed is something that I need to be able to do. Is there a different ffdshow codec that I can use that supports increased the playback speed? Or is there some setting(s) that I need to change to allow this?
Thank you,
Mark
