Converting AVI to MKV

    Good day!
    i would like to ask the experts this: (because i have been downloading MKV movie files which is about 400MB which has the same quality with 700MB AVI files, im talking on dvd ripped movies) can any experts here teach me how to convert avi to smaller mkv files?

    Hello again attar, i just did what you told me.
    I just converted Due Date, a 700MB avi file to a just 386MB MKV, StaxRip is a charm for me.

    It only took me 28 minutes to convert with my PC:
    -----------------------------------
    Windows 7 Home Premium (Activated)
    Intel(R) HD Graphics
    Intel(R) Core(TM) i5 CPU 650 @ 3.20GHz 3.20 GHz
    4.00 GB RAM
    32-Bit OS
    530 GB HDD
