why is it that the movie works on some dvd players and not on others. they all support divx movies but mine is only playing some movies at the start for 2 seconds. when you play it on the computer it works like a charm.

Is it an xvid file? Some properties of xvid, such as QPEL & GMC
cause issues for some standalone DVD players. You can tell if this is a factor
by opening the AVI in MediaInfo and looking at the video properties.
The cure to get this to work on a standalone is to re-encode.

If it's not that, often a simple remux works. You can do this in Vitualdubmod.
Open the file and set video to direct stream copy. Save it as a new AVI.

I had an AVI file today that stuttered and coughed on two standalone players, but was fine on the PC.
The cause was the audio which was VBR.
I remuxed it with Avidemux to CBR and it was fine.
