Not sure if there has been questions on this already but here's my frustrations:

I copied a divx movie on a dvd-r to play on my divx/dvd player. the movie has a (resolution?) of 640 (width) x 272 (hieght). My dvd player has the option to turn on the output display the movie to either 720P or 1080i on my 40" 1080P HDTV.

My question is, is this option useless since the file doesn't have 720 pixels? I don't notice a difference with these divx files when I have it on normal 480i and on HD 720p or 1080i. Am I correct when I say it is useless becuase the dvd player cannot make up pixels?

    Thanks for reading.

Not necessarily. The upconverting dvd player,
takes the typical 720*480 res dvd and outputs it as 720p or 1080i.
Either 720 or 1080, the player had to "make up pixels".

Whether this works for divx, is probably player defined. If it does
work, make the res of the divx as big as possible for maximum
    benefit.

Ohhh. So you think the player can "make up pixels" for divx also? Bigger the resolution the bigger the file. But then I guess I should start converting them to bigger files since it is probably worth it on bigger tvs.

Before you change your converting process, make sure it upconverts DIvx and not just DVD Video source...
