audio not matching video

I used Convertx to dvd to convert a movie I had downloaded but the audio isn't lining up properly and by the end of the movie it's completely messed up. I am really new to this and don't really know what I am doing. I have tried to play it on my computer through VLC media player but am having the same issues. Please any advice would be appreciated.

When you play the downloaded file is it out of sync?
If it is out of sync, play it with VLC and use 'Ctrl L' or 'Ctrl K' to get the audio in sync.
Note the time (- or +) that it syncs - usually a negative number.
If it stays in sync to the end of the movie, you know the delay is constant.

You can load the file into AviDemux and enter the sync (- or +) in the 'Shift' box and save the file.

Convert as required.

 

Was the original file an AVI file that you converted to a dvd(vob) file.

 

Yes it was an avi file

 

Your problem may lie in the program you are using to convert avi to vob. Avi files use mp3 audio and vob use wma files so if the program you use does not convert the audio to wma from mp3 the result is audio out of sync. You can either find another program to convert or you can download VIRTUALDUB.

Open you original file with virtualdub click on FILE menu OPEN VIDEO FILE then in the VIDEO menu change to DIRECT STREM COPY and in the AUDIO menu change to FULL PROCESSING MODE.

Then in FILE menu click SAVE AS AVI and save file under a new name the will create a new avi file with wma audio then you can convert this file to vob and the audio should be fine.

sort of having the same problem, but with a twist. I had anavi file that I burned as an iso in clonedvd2 and the audio is out of sync. The twist is, i had to delete the avi file before I found this out. Is there a way to correct the audio problem with the files or dvd I have now, or do I need to DL the avi movie all over again?!

From what I understand you have this movie or file as dvd now and the iso cannot be retreived as an avi.

 

If you don't want to download again or convert to AVI (and attempt an adjustment), try this:

The files should be in the VIDEO_TS folder.

Play the DVD movie with VLC.
Write down the delay factor (positive or negative) that is required to bring the playback in sync. (use Ctrl l or CTRL k to change the delay).

Demux the DVD files using PgcDemux (make sure that the video is checked off)

Run MuxMan.
Load the video (.m2v) and audio (.ac3 file) and insert the delay you noted from VLC (plus or minus) and remux the files ('Start').

Note that the 'Celltimes.txt' file from PgcDemux can be loaded into MuxMan, 'File' > 'Import Chapter' (this is the chapter times)

 

Jeez, just sounds easier to DL it again. I could convert back to avi as well I suppose. I imagine the program that turned it into an iso would convert it back to an avi...?

Let's say I go that route, what's next? BTW-the playback is on a standalone, not a pc(if i didn't mention it). Thanks!

 

HUH? AVIs can also use AC3 (amongst others). DVD files (VOB) never use WMA audio,

 

Nitram22-i didn't mention i used the program AVI2DVD. Just thought I'd throw that in since you said it could've been the program I used.

Let's say I download it again. What steps/programs do you recommend? I'm looking for something simple, maybe as easy as Clonedvd2. If I have to use more than one program, then I will but I prefer not to.

I just played the video_ts.ifo file(the one created by avi2dvd when i converted to burn to dvd)in media player and it is off. So it's definitely not just on the standalone, but it's the final product of the conversion. Well, maybe not. Maybe the orig avi is off.

I'm going to DL again. I'll return...

 

First off as you mentioned check to see if the audio is in sync on the original avi.

I understand you not wanting to use multiple programs but without researching it futrther this is the way I know how to do it.


SCENARIO 1:

If the audio is "NOT" off on the AVI. Try converting the audio from MP3 to WAV using this method. You can dwnld virtualdub(free).

Open you original file with virtualdub click on FILE menu OPEN VIDEO FILE then in the VIDEO menu change to DIRECT STREM COPY and in the AUDIO menu change to FULL PROCESSING MODE.

Then in FILE menu click SAVE AS AVI and save file under a new name this will create a new avi file then you can convert this file to VOB and the audio should be fine.

This should only take a few minutes to complete.(mayde 5 minutes)
once you have done this you can convert it to dvd with the prog. of your choice.



SCENARIO 2:

If the audio "IS" off in the AVI you can use Virtualdub to sync up the audio first,

To sync up audio that gradually goes async in avi with Virtualdub:

The AVI file can be loaded into VirtualDub.
Under 'Video' set 'Direct Stream Copy'.
Under 'Video' click 'Frame Rate' > 'Change so video and audio durations match' > 'OK'.
'File' > 'Save as avi.

Then follow the before mentioned process(SCENARIO 1)for converting audio from MP3 to WAV and then convert to dvd.

It seems complicated but it's actually easy.

 

It's not so much the multiple programs(which is a pain), but it's more that my "older" laptop has an 80GB HDD that i'm edge with space. I have to burn some more things o discs and then I want to keep the programs I truly need on disc and completely start over on it.
I have an old tower I want build up to put this sort of stuff on just for burning DL'ing. Plus, my movies will then be converted(hopefully) to go onto the drive I got for the old xbox.

OK, I checked and the audio works it's way off by the end of the video. I did scenario 2, but when i click on the avi file then, windows plays it as if on fast forward. Do I do scenario 1 now, or was there something else I had to do than what i did in scenario 2?

No one has any thoughts?!?!

 

I can't figure out what I'm missing here. The other thing that's get me mad is computer programs that don't work. If avi2dvd tells me to pick an audiostream one more time....
I could pick one if you'd actually have one in the pull down menu!!!

Any thoughts on the previous issue though?

It is off on the avi file, so i have to figure out how to correct that first, if that's possible....

 

If I click those settings then click the play button in VD, is that showing me how it will be in the saved file, or do I have to comlete it then watch the new saved file?

I ask because I changed the audio rate, and it seemed to be on, but when I watched the new saved file it was waaaayyy off.

EDIT-Well, I played around with VD and it's synced up not. 200ms off on the audio and full processing and it sounds fine and looks good when put on dvd. Thank you for your help!
