I hope this is the correct forum as I can contribute to the conversation, finely. As a newbie to the ins and outs of playing dvds in various players, I finely found a solution for WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER 9. As you all know the mpeg2 codec(decoder), is NOT embedded into the player. I found a codec pack that really works. Go to the web site COLE2K.net and download the WINDOWS STANDARD pack. The FULL pack will probably work as well. The player will work instantly. NO configuration needed. No fooling around at all. In the alternative go to web site GOMLABS.com and download the GOM player. It is like the 6.4 and VLC player in that the needed codecs are included in the player. If you download GOM from a third party site like CNET, the player will download, and an auto link will direct you to the codec site. Which will probably be COLE. I have been looking for FREE codecs for P9 for months, including advice given here. Nothing else worked. Hope this helps. It is not often I can contribute to forums like this.
I remember your issue, with the "P9"... Still not sure what your issue was. I am using WMP 11(why are you still on 9?), and I have no codec pack installed. I also have no issues paying any DVD.
Since there is no accounting for tastes I happen to like the simple design of the interface and the radio also. I found a FREE mpeg2 codec that IS NEEDED to make P9 play dvds, since the payer DOES NOT have the codec built into the player. This codec can be found at the web site COLE2K.net. Download the WINDOWS standard pack. The codec will instantly allow P9 tp play dvds, both protected and not. That WAS my issue. Player 10, 11, and 12 are more complicated and sofisticated than I need in my opinion. I installed the codec on my 4 towers and success on all. Your opinion is appreciated. I was trying to pass along info for others to use.

I am glad you understand "DIFFERENT STOKES FOR DIFFERENT FOLKS". The process was pretty straight forward once I found the correct codec/site. I had been trying for months downloading packs that said it was DESIGNED to address this very issue. None worked till now. I opened your WMP link and even that description says that a mpeg2 codec needs to be downloaded as a separate file. So I will stay with what I now know how to do. I will look in your guides section for more advice.
