virtualdub audio sync issue

#1 05 Dec 2010 @ 8:37
dont know if this is the right forum but newbie here......i have a dubbed movie in a foreign language that is perfectly synced for the 1st 30 mins or so then audio is out of sync. VBR audio is being used. apparently virtual-dub can only fix audio that is continuously out of sync and will not fix the problem without a special filter. anyone have any solutions?

Is the audio out of sync a constant value after the thirty minute mark?
If so you could select the good part (must be on a key frame) then 'Edit > Crop to selection' and save it as part 1 using 'Video > Direct stream copy'.
Undo the Crop and select from the same key frame to the end.
Go to 'Audio > Interleaving' and insert a 'Skew' value.
If you estimate the audio is leading the video by half a second, insert a negative value of 500 and play the video.
When satisfied, save part 2 and exit VirtualDub.
Restart VirtualDub and load part 1 then 'Append' part 2.
Select 'Video > Direct stream copy' and save.

Edited for clarity.

I don't know if you were aware, but if you use MPC as your media player, you can use the + or - keys on the number pad to bring the audio into sync during playback (the value is shown onscreen) - you can then transfer that skew value into VirtualDub, which removes the guesswork.
