I have a question about burning speed. I through in a couple other questions incase someone can help with them too.

I am trying to burn my dual layer DVD movie at 2.4 speed. I set it to that speed but it keeps burning them at 4x anyway. Why is that?

In the past my burnt movies played fine when I burnt them at 4x or even if I burnt them at 8x. Recently they starting freezing up and studdering so bad they are unwatchable. I've used many different type of blank media, many different burning software and now trying a slower burn speed to resolve this issue.

I'm still using Nero 7 because I don't like the clutter in newer versions. Problem with Nero 7 is it doesn't support the quad core processor very well. I have a Phenom II X4 910 Black Edition. It takes 3 or 4 times as long to burn something on this computer as it would to burn the same thing on my dual core. Even if I set affinity on the Nero process. Any suggestions on a better burning software that supports my qual core processor?

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks for the help,

    Koda

The burning program should be ImgBurn and the media Verbatim DVD+R DL.
It's possible that the burner firmware is overriding the speed setting - perhaps check for a firmware update.

I doubt the number of cores is affecting burn speed - encoding yes.

If you get no joy using ImgBurn/Verbatim consider posting at the ImgBurn Forum.

Agree with attar on his first paragraph in regards to media you should be using as for speed of burn selection that's entirely over to the dvd itself whether it allows it

As for nero 7 being less cluttered than later versions..lol..try using custom install you then get to select what is & isn't

DVD disc decides what burn speed can be used not the software not the writer, some discs have 1 speed only, others have two or more.
