I'm an absolute novice at this, so I have a few questions. I want to burn a DVD, what format does the file have to be in so that the dvd will play on a dvd player(to watch on tv). And my dad bought a version of nero, if that what I would use to burn it? I'd appreciate it if you could send me to a tutorial or something.

Burning DVD's is a fairly simple process. You need a burner, decryption software and burning software. Nero is a fine burning software. AnyDVD is the best decryption software available at this link http://www.slysoft.com/en/anydvd.html It gives you a trial period to try then you must pay. As to what format your file must be, your question raises questions. Are you backing up a DVD? Are you making a DVD from existing files on your computer? Are you making a DVD from VHS? Are you making a DVD from a Camcorder? All of these can be addressed with Nero. A tutorial is available on this site. Simply click Guides at the top of the page and you'll find a guide that will suite your needs.
