lately i have been having a lot of burns that have been pretty bad. 15 in a row of bad burns. i am using anydvd & clone dvd to do my burns. on my dvd quality scan it shows that i usually have at least 6 pi fails. what am i doing wrong.
Burn the disks using ImgBurn. Burn at half the maximum shown on the package. Use Verbatim brand disks. Update the burner firmware.
Sometimes it happens. I had a spindle of 50 Verbatim DVD-R and 20 were bad. 20 out of 30 halfway through the spindle. The next spindle of 50 (bought at the same time) all burned good, as did the other 30 in the first spindle.
it seems like most of the pi errors happen at the end of the disk. my compressions are usally around 60-70%. my firmware is up to date and i just formatted my computer to windows 7. i tried to burn with imgburn but im still having the same problems.
let me chime in on this. when you say your pi fails do you mean pie or pif's? could you post one of your scans? what type of drive do you have? you say it happens at the end of the burn. thats where most do happen but a spike of 6 pif's isnt really bad. how does the disc play? you need to take those scan with a grain of salt. try scanning hte same disc again i promise you you wont get teh same scan score... take a look at this thread about the scanning. http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/138/540688 there is alot of good things in there and alot of good people that scan the heck out of disc and can answer alot of questions. instead of doing the quality scan do the scan disc. it checks for crc errors which is more important to play back look at this link this is what im talking about the scan disc. http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_jump.cfm/540688/5013841
Here is a dvd i just burned the other day. I'm using an LG GH22 writer, when i insert the dvd into any player, it takes about a two minutes for the dvd to be recognized before it starts to play.
that is not a bad scan at all.. not a great one but i wouldnt call it a bad scan. i see you scanned it at 8x. try it at 4x and see what you get. i do see something i dont like. thats your read speed. the green line on the top in the PIE feild. that is way to jumpy. that should be almost a straight line, all the way across. is that the only drive you have to scan with? you say thats a LG drive. if my mem serves me correct they arent to good of a drive to scan with. great burners but not so good to scan with. this is a scan i did acouple days ago. when i did it then i got a 98 score.. so it goes to show you they arent to reliable. see how the read line on mine is straight across at 4x speed. yours is haven touble reading the disc. final thing how does the disc play in your dvdplayer. not the puter.
so i did what you said and this is what i got. i dont use my lg to read the dvds on the discspeed b/c it wont show up so i just use the dvd burner that came with the computer. from what i read before, i still looking for the link but it said that between 1-3 pi failures is ideal. when i put the dvd into a dvd player it takes a few minutes for it to be recognized before it starts up. i think that i'm going to be switching over to a plextor drive.
plextors are NOT great burners.. people seem to be saying benq at the moment.. I'm sure the nice scan maniacs can give good suggestions.. I prefer samsung/nec myself.. just personal preference.. next time I will probably go for pioneer.
1-3 PIF max is ideal not total. that would be a perfect disc if you only had a total of 3 PIF's as long as the PIF's dont go over 10 i dont tend to worry. but i think you ca ngo as high as 28 before the disc isnt readable. ill look and see if i can find that page that explains the pie and pif numbers. alot better than i can..lol if you can finda plextor 716A/S which i doubt i wouldnt buy one for the fact they are now rebadged liteons which are great drives but whypay the extra $20 just buy a liteon. and Benq's they dont make anymore. here is a list of some great burning drives and the liteons do scan very well. i did just order the sony/nec/optaric AD7240S should have it tomorrow. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...136167&page=2&bop=And&ActiveSearchResult=True
