after a windows XP pro reinstall I can not get my editor to work anymore. it says it can load the audio but not the video. when I open in window media player it has video but no audio. I use TMPGEnc to edit I get an "invalid sample format error" I installed the Windows Essentials Codec Pack and loaded it. it did and didn't help. I can rip a DVD from my DVR made re-write disc with the TMPEG editor but after doing so the MPG will not play in windows unless I reinstall the codec pack. then it finds it. it still wont play in the editor and it locks it up after the rip. so I have to end program. I really like the editor and hate the others I have gotten. I downloaded the Gspot program and it says I have the AC3 audio and Mpeg2 codec installed. I am however lost as how to use the program. everything used to shake hands no problem before the reinstall.
Try uninstalling whatever codec's you installed and install the K-Lite codec pack (Full or Mega, Full should have all you need). Codec's can conflict so uninstall your's and K-Lite let's you choose what to install so you won't need GSpot but Media Player Classic is included and is superior to WMP, in my opinion: http://home.hccnet.nl/h.edskes/mirror.htm

Which Tmpgenc product are you talking about ? These products usually have in their environmental settings an option to enable the Directshow reader. Without this set, you may run into problems similar to what you are seeing.
Thanks to you Dave for your reply. I use the TMPEGnc editor program...version 1.0.1.59 I have had it since it came out and love it. does exactly what I want it to when it was working. I will research this latest Directshow app or whatever it is. thanks again. will let you know if it does the trick. Scott

the error I get after copying a disc from my DVR to the hard drive of my computer using the TMPGEnc editor. "invalid sample format. (error code 0x80048002)" the error I get if I try to open the video file after it is on the hard drive. "Could not open the video part of the file. Only the audio part can be opened".
Your taking the files from a dvr and copying it to the computer? Perhaps it really is using a sample rate that is non-standard that the editor doesn't like. The sample rate, when applied to the video, is not a term often used, but I think it refers to the frames per second, and the horizontal and vertical resolution. Open the file in Gspot or Mediainfo and see what it says. If that doesn't provide any useful info, why don't you post a short section of the mpg at a file sharing site, then myself or others will review it.

I think that file belongs to FFDshow. If you're interested in uploading a short clip, any filehosting site will do, for example http://www.savefile.com/
ok, got the ffdshow and loaded it and Gspot showed no errors. didn't help the problem though. here is a link to a sample. recorded off my DVR and copied with the editor program... after copying it ... it would not load it in the area where you do the actual editing. pops up the same ole error. http://rapidshare.com/files/258167025/DocShadowSample.mpg.html THANKS
I installed the editor and opened your file just fine. Apparently, the problem is to do with the audio filter on your system. This file is dolby digital ac3. Follow the steps in this post. Open the file. On the lower left you'll see gspot vid/aud. Hit the "1" under aud it will show you possibilities depending on what you have installed. If you hit the "2" under it, it will show you what permutations actually connect. Just to the right, hit the "1" under MS A/V and it will show you the filters directshow will use with things as they are. By manipulating the filters merit and/or installing/uninstalling various filters, and/or turning them on and off, you can effect a change. For example, for ac3, ac3filter or ffdshow are commonly used. If ffdshow shows up to be the filter directshow would use, disable ac3 in the ffdshow audio config. Install ac3filter if it's not already installed. Hope this helps - it takes a bit of detective work, as you can see.
