If this is a stupid question, I apologize but I am very new to recording dvd's on my computer. I have a hl-dt-st dvdrrw gsa-h20l dvd burner in my hp pavilion and I'm not sure whether to use DVD+R or DVD-R formats or does it matter ???

If you use a burning program like ImgBurn, it will list the types of media you can use.
    'Tools' > 'Drive' > 'Capabilities'.

Some standalone players might list one type over another - I use DVD-R because one of my original standalone players wouldn't play +R , but the quality of the media is important.

Two disks that are held to be reliable are Taiyo-Yuden and Verbatim.
The Verbatim disks should say 'Advanced AZO' on the package.
