Hello, first off, I have been lurking for awhile and I have to say the people on this forum really know their stuff! I've been able to fix errors before by reading the guides and other posts in the forums so THANK YOU!

However, maybe its lack of sleep...maybe my brain is on vacation but perhaps someone can help me with this one.

I am still a newbie at this; I've burned about 10 DVDs so far. I am using BitTorent and DVD Flick. So here is the problem...

I am sitting at 99% done when ImgBurn gives me this error:

So my immediate thinking is that it has something to do with my burner...maybe? Maybe my kids being on line playing? I will admit to being a bit suspicious when I downloaded the torrent. I got it from my second choice site and I wasn't sure what one of the files was in the torrent. However, since I am new to this, I went ahead and downloaded it anyway hoping I could fix anything if something went wrong. I am sorta a student of "trial by error" and "trial by fire".

If anyone can help, I'd really appreciate it!

    I don't believe this...

I closed the error message instead of having it "Try Again" and the disk popped out and the DVD works.

WTF? Was it because the door to the burner was stuck?! I tried opening it and it wouldn't open (I was going to check the disk). So I pulled the door open and then shut it, clicked off the error and TA-DA...the disk popped out and when I tested it, it was done!

Is there a guide to commen error messages?

Also, what free programs do you recommend the most? Easy to use would be nice until I get more confident. Also, what type of files should I be wary of when I download a torrent? Are there certain torrent sites that you recommend over others? I am really enjoying this and my next project is going to be turning all my Hi-8 movies of my kids onto DVD, so is there software that will be better for editing my home movies? I will have to convert them straight to my DVD recorder first and then edit them on the computer...so I guess I'll have to learn how to do that too! Any and all recommendations would be appreciated. If I do a good job converting my home movies, I have others that are willing to PAY me to do it and with 4 little boys, we need the money!

You found it.. afaik there isn't a guide to errors anywhere.. usually we google the exact error and see what pops up.

    |I regularly burn dvd's oversize.. and sometimes will get an out of space error.. but k3b being awesome will write every available bit and then after error will spit the working disk out.. not bad. Samsung -r 16x hold 4486mb's

For your other bits.. I guess you are using about the best for what you are doing.. flick and imgburn are a superb pair.. have a look for the flick forums.. there is a hell of a lot you can do with it if you are prepared to edit the template files.. I was impressed... and it takes something to impress me .. believe.. XD .
I would add avidemux to your arsenal to edit or convert and maybe resync.. it does more.. but the basic functions are fantastic.. I have converted a lot of people by plugging this gem of an application.. it's like a swiss army knife of a program when you dig a little deeper. .. and when you get a little more confident give dvd-styler a look..

And hit that burner with some lube.. also check the tray drive belt.. a known bugbear on samsung drives tho others can suffer the same fate.

Do you have 'Verify after burning' checked in DVD Flick?
ImgBurn cycles the tray open then compares the source image to the disk.
I assume that the tray didn't open fast enough.

I think you got it.. samsung drives suffer stretchy belt syndrome.. even with a disk in they can be slow to open. after 7 years they don't even want to close without help (I know.. but I'm lazy and they read a treat so I don't want to open them up and mess with them.. 605b drives are gold dust)

Yes, I do have that checked off. I guess that must have been the problem. I was having it burn late at night so I wasn't around when the error originally happened.
