Can you play commercial DVD movies on disk on the PC?

What type of video - avi files?
Do they play ok on the PC?
You are converting them to DVD format using a program like DVD Flick or FAVC?
Before burning the DVD format files to the disk, are you setting your authoring program to produce suitable video format.
Example if you live in North America, it should be set for NTSC output.
