I recently got a scifi movie set with each side of disc having a movie on it. I don't want to lose this movie, so I tried backing it up with dvd cloner, and dvd43 with clonedvd. I burned a rw with clone dvd, and it got stuck at chapter 18. I then burned the dvd cloner version, same problem. Finally tried burning with cX2dvd the dvd cloner version. same problem. Original file was on hard drive, and played fine. last 2 burns were with +r and -r media. Any ideas how to fix?
    Thanks in advance.

dvd cloner .. dvd43 .. and clonedvd .. I wonder why you never EVER hear anybody talking about that obsolete crap?. could it be because they don't work perhaps?

try a modern capable ripping program.. dvd-fab is free.

clonedvd by slysoft, which is recommended here, dvdx studios version. Any reasons that this is occurring, such as encryption issues, dvd burner issues? I may try dvdfab, but heard that the final source shows bleeding on the video, less than others in quality.

Source for the source of 'bleeding' ?.
I'm not aware of 2001 being remastered or anything, thus I'll wager that just DVD Shrink will do (i know that's all that was needed on the movie disc i ripped long ago)

I meant that toptenreviews said that the final result of dvdfab rips show bleeding of colors in the credits. I couldn't edit my earlier post, but slysofts clonedvd is the one I used. I guess my main question wasn't what software to use rip the dvd, but as to why chapter 18 on the burned dvd freezes, since the original played fine, and the version on my hard drive is fine as well.I ripped one version with magic dvd ripper, and ready to burn it, but don't want to waste a dvd if there is a special setting or hardware issue I should fix first. This program has burned 2 convertx projects sucessfully, at maxium speed.
    Thanks for any assistance.
I'm a fan of dvd shrink, great for getting source material for vids.

I've never seen DVDFab bleed and i've ripped a lot of movies with it over many many versions over a very long time.

Ah toptenreviews, that name rings a bell, we used to get stupid amounts of spam with toptenreviews in the web address links. Methinks they're talking out of their posterior

you're probably right. It put dvd cloner as best ripper,1 click dvd copy second, and dvd fab 3rd. But do you think it's safe to burn my magic dvd copy rip? Is the freeze in chapter 18 due to a bad rip? maybe dvd cloner does stink, and dvd 43's latest version is buggy, which is causing this. If no one knows, maybe I'll try and burn my latest version, and then if it fails give dvd fab a try.

dvd cloner - i believe this is a subpar, inferior knockoff of Slysoft's CloneDVD
1 click dvd copy - i think i've heard of the name, know nothing about it
    dvd43 - crap
magic dvd copy - i think i've heard of the name, know nothing about it, probably crap

I swear by DVDFab (to rip, i do own the Platinum version of DVDFab but i very rarely use it to transcode anything); i used to swear by DVD Shrink, both for ripping and for transcoding. I very rarely use DVD Shrink anymore (for ripping or transcoding), i've used DVD Rebuilder for re-encoding virtually all DVD's instead of DVD Shrink for a few years now.
As i posted up the page, for ripping this movie all that should be needed is DVD Shrink.

ok, took a chance and burned my magic dvd copy file (same company that makes magic dvd ripper)Recently bought sony dvd-r 50 pack from Malaysia, I know inferior quality, best buy didn't have the verbatim pack available. The burn was flawless, quality looked as good as original on my 32 inch screen with component video cables. Maybe this was due to it being an older movie. If I ever get the newest Star Trek movie I'll dl rebuilder, since I just read the shrink vs rebuilder thread, and I'm sold on it. I'll use dvd fab if I run into trouble, thanks for your advice.
