Since it's reporting a medium error with the CMC disks, consider using 'Verbatim' disks instead. Also: There are firmware updates listed here. http://www.firmwarehq.com/LG/GSA-H55N/files.html
I find CMC MAG M01 to be excellent discs. I personally burn ALL media at 8x. What happens when you try 8x ?
