I've had the unit for several years with mixed results. The problem I'm having is recording from a TV program. After recording and before finalizing, the copy plays fine in the recorder. However, when I try to finalize it, I sometimes will get "cannot read or record to this media". I'm recording on TDK DVD+R disks 1-16x speed. What causes this? Can these disks be saved? This is frustrating when I've recorded a series and lose the entire thing. I've used various brands of media and its been hit and miss with all of them. I could understand it if this was a constant. It is not. I've come to the point where I don't try to finalize and just view the disk on this recorder. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Dennis
If the recorder is failing - I can't offer anything. If it's a media problem, then Verbatim DVD-R are consistently reliable. If it can use DVD+RW disks, I understand that they don't have to be finalized to play on a PC (my own recorder can't use them, so I can't verify). If you have a recording and want to retrieve it, you can use Isobuster on the PC to get the files. These files are mpeg2 and if you use the likes of DVD Flick with the 'Copy mpeg2' setting, can be authored to a new disk without re-encoding.
