I'm not a newbie having been using programs to back up my DVD's for almost five years years now, but this might be a dumb question. I only use Verbatim DVD+R and DVD+R DL discs. I typically use DVD Decrypter to rip, DVD Shrink (if need be) and then DVD Decrypter to burn to disc or just straight forward DVD Decrypter to rip then burn for DL discs depending on what I'm backing up. All of a sudden I'm having trouble burning the DL discs. I never had trouble before. I burn at 2.4x, DVD Decrypter (and ImgBurn) starts burning normally, then once it hits 50% completion it stops burning and won't go any further. I've tried several Verbatim DVD+R DL discs and get the same problem, trying different titles so it's not just one specific movie I'm having trouble with. I have a hunch my drive (nearly five years old) is just on it's last legs but thought I would ask. Or could it possibly be a bad batch of DL discs I have? Thank you in advance.
There are a number of possibilities: 1) your drive is having problems at the layer break because it is finding it difficult to refocus. That could an age-related problem. 2) The discs have a flaw at the layer break. 3) The discs have changed their formulation (if they are 8X), and the drive is not as compatible with the newer formulation. (Try recording at 4X to see if that helps.)
