    Hello Fellow forum members...
I need a bit of advcie please?

I am currently backing up my railway DVD collection to my hard drive
I am the worst when it comes to understanding evcen the basics of tech speak! but I try..

at the moment I have a freeware software package which seems fine to me "All in One DVD ripper" this is new as previouse rippers were slow or jamming up my pc!

all I really need to ask is when it as ripped the DVD to my hard drive designated folder there are several folders as follows:-

    D2V FILE 317KB
    IDX FILE 264KB
    LST FILE 328KB
    IFO FILE 40KB

    VOB FILE 1,048,186
    VOB FILE 1,048,444
    VOB FILE 1,048,114
    VOB FILE 581,772

I just wish to keep this as simple as possible so which of the above files can I delete and which one shopuld I keep to show the film...
I was told of all manor of ways of doing thi..but please I just want to make it idiot proof for me!!

    many thanks in advance

    regards Steve

Not sure what program you are using...a "normal" ripper, like DVDFab(FREE) will create BUP,IFO and VOB files, not idx or d2v.

The only files you need should be the VOB files, you can use VobMerge or Vob2mpg to join then in one single file, or DVD Shrink and choose not to split the files in 1GB chunks.

    Hello Again

Good to hear from you..the programme I am using is called all-in-one-dvd-ripper 527kb programme.I have just started again to rip my DVD collection to the hard drive external..

Is ther an inclusive free programme which will (simply merge everything required in to one file?

As I have 4 x VOB files do I need to keep all 5 or can I keep just one makes life simpler..

    all the best Steve

You need ALL the VOB files...they don't have to be split, you can use the programs that I mentioned above to merge them into one single file.

I don't know the program you use. If you're interested in saving space, you might want to convert the movies to one AVI with something like Autogk .

    Hi
many thanks for getting back to me..I took your advcie and downloade the programmes but it seemed to me that several programmes downloaded and am unsure what is what now..also I put sample dvd in drive and it seperated the files for ripping..which made them hard to add?

    Good day/

I know it can seem very frustrating trying to help me

But please beleive me there are valid reasons why I find things difficult to comprehend it is not totally down to me being dum!

I have now downloaded DVD Fab
it is ripping copying my dvd sample..
I clicked on Customise and I think this is the one that copies in to one file only??

Please tell me I have done it correctly this time

    many thanks

    all the best Steve

Here's how you can save as a single ISO.
I don't think you want menus, extras and the other junk, so choose "Main Movie" also.

VLC will play the ISO file directly. WMP will play it as well, but it has problems seeking(FF/RW).

It will work best with VLC . It is a great player, will not install any other codecs on your system.
