Theres so many fusking forums here i've decided to just pick one and go for it. I have, for the first time...., downloaded a video file ripped from a BR and converted into, in this case, a matroska format, 720p, video file (by comparison my favorite format). The file size is about 2 1/2 gigs which easily fits onto a dvd yet obviously has much more definition than a dvd rip. So my question is...will my dvd player be capable of displaying a higher resolution than a standard DVD? And to follow that up, what is, by industry standard, the max resolution of a dvd player, if there is one at all? Am I just paying hundreds of dollars for nothing more than a stronger laser, or the same laser with better software? Will there ever be peace on earth? Is there such a thing as a heaven or hell? What is the meaning of life?
Generally DVD players can only display DVD VIDEOS excluding other formats, some DVD players can also play DIVX files which make them more usefull. That means that if you burn that file into a disc your dvd WONT be able to play that file, in fact your DVD layer cant give the necessary resolution for that kind of file. But if you really want to have a better image quality you can buy an upscaling DVD player (which gives a higher resolution image that standard dvd's but not high definition), or a Blu-Ray player which generally comes with this feature included. The last questions I cannot answer you should google them.
