ISP disconnecting me when im downloading?

i am really curious cause i have telus and when i start downloading sometimes my speed lowers instantly and the internet basically freezes then when i cancel them it comes back up. I do download a lot but i know im not over the limit at all so its bs.I know how to open ports on a router and know a lot about them but this is just odd.
