My ps2's lens is weak but i still managed to install fmcb 1.8. my question is if ill buy a Network adaptor and HDD then after installing my games on my hdd using winhip, can i just use the hdloader that comes from fmcb 1.8 to load my games? are there any errors or problems i might encounter with this kind of method later? does this method compatible with all kinds of ps2 games? no lags or hangs or whatsover... because someone told me that i need to have a DMS modchip installed into my ps2 to be able to play games off HDD using HDLOADER, but i dont have enough money anymore to buy that dms modchip again so i was wondering if this method is gonna work! (this is the only method i have right now)

Thanks in Advance...

The fmcb+network adapter+hdd route is the best way I have found...just as good as the best modchips, but without the soldering and cheaper.

Free MCboot does not come with hdloader...if your copy does, then it is something that someone set up. You should go over to sksapps.com, and download the following:
http://sksapps.com/hd/HDL_V0.8C.rar - the latest HD Loader
http://sksapps.com/hd/hdld_svr0.8.5.rar - Run this on the PS2 to install games
http://sksapps.com/hd/hdl_dumx-0.8.3.zip - Run this on the PC to install games
http://sksapps.com/launchers/uLaunchELF_v4.40.zip - The latest, greatest PS2 file manager - used to launch hdld_svr0.8.5 and to setup network settings (you don't need the network adapter setup cd)
http://sksapps.com/exploit/freevast/Free_McBoot_1.8b.rar - the official mcboot 1.8b package, with instructions for putting this all together.

You do not need all four of the programs that the fmcb text recomends, if it does not find them then it will not have any issues. If you set it up like this, there should be no problems, and games will load faster and run smoother (if they didn't run smooth before).

I see... will this really work without those lag or hangs on hdloader splash screen and when loading games no hang (black screen only and game never loads)? and can you please suggest or tell me the best kind and model of network adaptor and hard disc drive?! i heard there are 2 types of network adaptor (the ethernet adaptor w/modem and the ethernet only w/out modem)and also what kind of hard disc has the highest compatibility with the network adaptor, hdd and the hdloader?

I heard the latest version of seagate hdd has a little problem with the older model of ps2 network adaptors...

and last will my games (all of them will work with this method and without really lagging or hang in the middle of the game when playing)?

Thank you so much for helping me...

I'm using an old seagate 250GB drive with the config I recomended, no lags/hangs on the screen (other than a second or two while the game boots). You still have to wait for load screens, but they are only onscreen for about 1/3 as much time as loading from disk. I have only had problems with a handfull of games, and these were all games with known issues, and I was able to fix most of them with patches I found on SKSapps.com (still can't get the Italian version of Ferrari Challenge to work).

The PS2 is compatable with 2TB drives, but the biggest ATA drives still being made are 500GB. You can also use a ATA->sata converter to connect a 2TB SATA drive (you will have to run wires outside the case), or you might be able to find a good condition used 2TB ATA drive.

As for the network adapter, the only difference is the modem. I doubt you will ever need it, so just look for the cheapest working network adapter you can find...weather it has the modem or not.
