Hello and welcome

First of all there is no PS2 that will play backups without modification.
Whether that be a mod chip installed, Swap Magic, or some exploit on the memory card.

If your purchasing these backups, that could be the problem right there.

Perhaps your PS2 does not like these discs.
Better to make your own backups

Yes your laser could be weak. Have you tried to clean it.

Use 'Rubbing Alcohol' and a q-tip
Clean in a circular motion for about 30 secs
Dry with the dry end of the q-tip in the same manner

Yes your PS2 must already have a modchip, otherwise you couldn't even play backp ups.

To use Swap Magic is easy.

Just insert Swap Magic
Load the program
Swap the disc
Press Normal
Then choose your region of PS2 (NTSC or PAL)
Press X to start game.

just use 'imgburn' (its free and what most people use)
Copy your backup to ISO image
Burn ISO image with imgburn at 4x or 8x depending upon how new your burner is

Swap Magic 3.6 CD - link

And Swap Magic 3.8 DVD - link

You already have a modchip, so not sure why you want Swap Magic or how it will work being you have a modchip

The directions I gave were for the Retail Disc, and blocking the PS2 sensors.

For you too use it may be different.

as u says that my ps2 is modified.. dont need swap magic..
so i cleaned my ps2 lens as u mentioned above.. but still it doesnt make a change..
still old problems occurs..
i try to create a backup as u told... but it still didnt work..
e.g i try smackdown vs raw 2009.. i create a backup of it.. my ps2 detects it but when game asks for memory card option and when i ignore that message and press no.. it didnt load further.. same problem occur with liberty city stories..
the game laoding bar didnt complete..

whats the problem exactly with my ps2..?
i cleaned lens, i created backups...
whats the problem exactly...

Well thats a good thing then it played smackdown vs raw 2009 and GTA Liberty stories.

I would suggest you get a memory card also and see if that makes any difference or not.

I don't know if that makes some difference with your mod chip or not.

I would think the game should play anyway.

Well it could be your laser then, or you need to try different brand of media to burn on.

Ok if cleaning didn't help, then what I meant above is too replace it
DVD-RW is hard on PS2 lasers, even if some PS2 will read them

Also what I meant try different media.. is the brand..Use Verbatim, Sony DVD-R and see if makes a difference.

Lasers are pretty cheap and easy to replace.

There are ways to test the laser, but not without voiding the warranty, and I am not sure the exact specs on the newest Version 18

Each version PS2 had different readings set at factory on the laser.

So yeah you have a year warranty, I doubt they would refund you now after this long, but they should fix it.
