Canon HF10 - Shooting Video through a fence (Baseball) - Help!

#1 24 Jul 2009 @ 23:11
I am shooting some video of my son's baseball tournament and they are not allowing anyone on the field or in the dugouts to film or shoot photos.

I have a Canon HF10. Does anyone know of settings that will help to not focus on the fence when I am shooting. Zooming is a necessity. At times I can one foot from the fence up to ten feet from the fence.

What are optimal settings for this situation in bright outside sunlight?

Also, what settings are good for when I CAN get in front of the fence?

Thanks Wayne (Dallas, TX)

Read the manual and find out how to focus manually, then
focus on the distance. The fence will be well out of focus,
and hardly visible.

When you're in front of the fence, fully automatic is best until
you're more experienced with the camera.

Zooming is part of the problem. I get it to focus past the fence and then when I change the zoom it focuses on the fence again.

I don't understand why it would do that, if you place the
focus in fully manual mode?
